In The Bible, people are enjoined to never partake of blood. The admonition in Genesis chapter 9 states emphatically that "life is in the blood". Therefore, sins could only be forgiven in the shedding of blood. In the New Testament Jesus' blood served as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of the world. His life and blood were given for the good of all.
