all are properties related to hydrogen bonding.
Information used from Prentice Hall Biology book from the year 2006. Cohesion is the attraction between molecules of the same substance. Due to hydrogen bonding water is very cohesive. Water's cohesion causes molecules on the surface of the water to be drawn inward causing "surface tension". This property allows insects to walk on water. Adhesion is the attraction between molecules of different substances. Adhesion causes water to rise in a narrow tube against the force of gravity for example the forces that draw water out of the roots of the plants and up into its stems and leaves, this is called capillarity.
Two: cohesion, where water molecules are attracted to each other, and adhesion, where they are attracted to a different surface. Think of water molecules as people wanting to climb out of a well: people leading the way up are grabbing the side walls (adhesion) and also pulling other people up (cohesion). This adhesion and cohesion are due to water molecules hydrogen-bonding with each other and with the tubes in the plant.
The property is cohesion. Cohesion among water molecules at the water's surface produces surface tension.
no
Hydrogen bonds are the reason for cohesion and Van Der Waals equation is the cause of adhesion.
cohesion and adhesion
Cohesion and adhesion put together is called capillarity. Capillarity alows water to move throughout a plant.
They type of chemical bond that is responsible for the properties of adhesion and cohesion is hydrogen bonding. In cohesion the water's hydrogen bonds make water self-sticky, it beads up. In adhesion water has the ability to climb up the wall of any container it is in.

Adhesion is the connecting of water molecules to one another through hydrogen bonds. Cohesion is the connection of water molecules to other objects. A relationship between them would be capillary action, or surface tension. Where water molecules must connect to both each other as well as another surface. This is a major property of water.
