In the Platonic dialogue, 'Phaedrus,' the relationship between Philosophy and myth is, as elsewhere in Plato's writings, a matter of 'end' and 'means.' Properly understood, Philosophy is that way of thought and of life by which human beings engage with reality as it truly is (and themselves as they truly are): it is thus the aim of those persons who understand the purpose of human life clearly, even while it is a kind of means in its own right.
