Narwhals reproduce through basic sexual reproduction. Typical male and female haploid (n) gametes fuse to form a zygote (2n). The only exception to this basic rule of reproduction is that the female narwhal can undergo "delayed embryo implantation." This means the fertilized egg does not begin grow and mature unless conditions are optimal.
This is not a conscious decision by the female, rather a result of blood chemistry that either allows for embryo implantation or dormancy in the embryo until such time that conditions improve. The exact process is not well understood, but is being studied.
The main causes for population decline are predation, pollution, maritime transportation, and climate change. The main narwhal predators are hunters, killer whales [Orcinus orca], and polar bears [Ursus maritimus]. The pollution of the air and of the waters is worldwide in its scale and its impact. Maritime transportation contributes to that pollution, and also may affect narwhal migration routes. Climate change affects the life cycle of the narwhal and of narwhal predators and prey. The narwhal population has specific habitat and dietary needs. Any impact on either impacts the narwhal population.
are female narwhal bones the same as male narwhal bones
Animal research claims the lunar cycle may affect hormonal changes in insects. The lunar cycle influences reproduction in fish. The moon phases supposedly effect reproduction and menstruation in humans as well.
Slaterbugs are also known as isopods or pill bugs. They are born from eggs and exhibit internal fertilization as well as sexual reproduction.
There is only on reason. The name Narwhal originates from the Latin term "Narwhale" which is roughly translated to "Extremely Awesome" The Narwhal is also referred to as: Jedi of the sea, and the unicorn of the sea.
The only (likely) interesting, unique detail about the narwhal's life cycle is that, for males, the tusk grows in during puberty.
