Dividend: 3x^3 +8^2 -6x +12

Divisor: 3x -1

Quotient: x^2 +3x -1

Remainder: 11

For some reason or another this particular computer wont allow work to be carried out in step by step stages but algebraic questions like the above are solved by long division as if the divisor and dividend were integers.

3x^3 + 8x^2 - 6x + 12= 3x^3 - x^2 + 9x^2 - 3x - 3x + 1 + 11

= (3x - 1)*(x^2 + 3x - 1) + 11

Therefore, (3x^3 + 8x^2 - 6x + 12)/(3x - 1) = (x^2 + 3x - 1) + 11/(3x - 1)
