What is the river that Melbourne stands on?
The Yarra River runs through the city of Melbourne.
the answer to this is unknown, yet. although Queensland is long away from Melbourne, the amount of rain Queensland received may possibly be distributed to Melbourne if it does not stop. The river system that feeds Melbourne is some distance from the river system into which the Queensland floodwaters are emptying. However, parts of Victoria (the state of which Melbourne is capital) will most certainly be affected by the floodwaters moving downstream.
I hope this answer encourages debate and proof of what I say, but the first bridge in Melbourne was not built over the Yarra as thought. It was a wooden structure built - over the creek that ran down to the Yarra where Elizabeth Street now stands.
