We have what is called a Deacon in training. These men are set aside for one year and observed by the pastor, the deacon body and the church body. During this time the person is instructed in the responsibilities and duties of a deacon. After one year a decision is made to weather the person is qualified to be a deacon, if yes then they are ordained. During the ordination a body of pastors and deacons question the person and make the decision.

I like the way Richard Fabian defines the Rolle of the Deacon and so will use his definition as mine. The role of the Deacon is to make the liturgical service go smoothly. The Deacon has a job, a big job. The Deacon vests for his/her job and i so doing share in ministry with the Rector and the Lay people.

Deacon .
Q: In a corporate baptist church can deacon also serve as a trustee?
This very much depends on your church. The word deacon is derived from the greek word that means servant (as in a waiter at a restaurant). This indicates that deacons are to serve the church. Churches get this idea from the argument in the church recorded in Acts 6. In this story, the apostles appointed deacons to serve the church so the apostles could concern themselves with other matters. This should give an idea of what deacons do. They take care of things in the church so that the other leaders can focus on spreading the word.
The responsibilities of a Deacon Board is to help the Pastor with his/her needs. They will usually need to do prayer in the services at church, and help with Communion. The Deacon Board has a lot of responsibility and the Pastor is usually very grateful that he has people to help him. The word deacon means servant, the original deacons, of the early church, helping with the needs of widows. See Acts 6:1-7.
