Mitochondria are called as the 'power houses' of cells. They are organelles present in the cell that generate most of the energy required by the cell. This energy is produced in the form of ATP (adinosine tri-phosphate). In addition to this, Mitochondria's other functions include cell growth, cell differentiation, signalling and facilitating cell death.
