The role of women in today's world is too broad to answer because there are too many culture's in the world that define the role of women quite differently from each other.
In what can be called the "Western world" it can be demonstrated that in general terms the roles of men & women are basically the same with the exception that only women can bear children. Examples of women in the West, show us that traditional roles of say 50 years ago have changed. In politics, the economic world, and even the military world, we see women having roles that impact in the 3 areas I mentioned, and even more than that.
The roles of women in certain Asian, African and Middle Eastern cultures are very dissimilar to each other and to the western culture.
