Firing occurs throughout the rotation of the top gear (camshaft gear). Each cylinder fires at a different point of the rotation of the gear.
If its a small block it's endless. Small block parts interchange alot.

Standing in the front of the engine, It will be on the right back side of the distributor. It will have an electric wire pluged into the top of it and it will screew into the engine block.
The cylinder that you are checking must have the piston travel up and down 4 times are more.
small block and big block motor mounts are the same, so you should be able to take V8 motor mounts from most any Chevy engine bay.
