Nepal is the country to the northeast of India. There is an area of India extending easterly between Bhutan and Bangladesh, but I think Nepal is the correct answer.
Well, as you all know, the Himalaya Mountains is one example of the effect. Also you can see that the successful invasion of India have been from the northwest, the Kyber Pass.
The mountains in northwest Africa are called the Atlas Mountains. They extend from Tunisia to the southwestern region of Morocco.

There is no large bay northwest of India. Northwest of India is the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. The Bay of Bengal is northeast of India.
