It is about when their are attacks on Royals and their guardian's, the outside isn't considered safe for vampires, so they go to this ski lodge all together for Christmas holidays with the guardians and all the families.
the attacks continue, and when they get information telling them that the Strigori are believed to be in Spokane. Dimitri tells Rose, but he tells her not to tell anyone, she is mad at him, because she believe he is going away to be Tasha Ozero's (Christian's aunt) guardian, and she tells Mason.
There is then this big party, and Rose's mum has a go at her, and so she goes to the roof, Dimitri follows her there and they just sit there together, when Rose gets up she is gong to find Mason to tell him that they cant be together, but she cant find him, Eddie or Mia. they have gone to Spokane.
She finds Christian and asks him to use compulsion on the guard to get them out, it doesn't work so she hits him over the head. they go to the nus stop and go to Spokane. when they get there they go to find the others. when they find them they head back, but they get lost. then they get kidnapped by humans who are working with Strigori.
they starve Mia and christian, and say that if they kill one of the guardians then they can join them, and live. christian and rose come up with a plan. they break free and the others get out.
Rose doesn't. she stays back and has to fight the Strigori. Mason comes back to help her, but he gets killed. she then fights the Strigori and protects Masons body and till the other guardians come. When they do she tries to fight them , because she wants to keep Mason safe, but then she realises that it is Dimitri and stops.
They go back to the academy. Rose get 2 molinja marks for the Strigori she killed and she gets a couple of days of training. when she goes back Dimitri says she isn't ready, and so they just sit and talk. he tells her he is not going to go with Tasha, that he is staying because he is in love with someone (rose). they have a kiss , that he starts for once, and then the book finishes.
