I can't speak for security outside of the U.S. but it's extremely tight at American mints, often tighter than at airports.

What does mint julep taste like?

Most recipes recommend using fresh spearmint for a mint julep, however it really depends on the drinker's taste for mint. A stronger mint flavor would require peppermint or chocolate mint. Milder flavors would go more with apple mint or one of the others like pineapple mint. However I would NOT recommend using lemon mint unless you like the smell of citronella.
