The TV series "Cosmos", narrated by astronomer Carl Sagan, explored some of what is - or was then - known about the formation of the universe. Many of his observations, recorded in the late 1970s, seem somewhat dated now, but the "big ideas" he explored have become more well understood.
It is well worth watching, although somewhat preachy and pedantic. The music by Vangelis provides a stirring if irrelevant counterpoint to the concepts introduced.
In a couple of places, however, even Sagan understates the truth. There is a well-known parody of Sagan's signature line "BIL-lions and BIL-lions of stars", when we now know that the truth is "Billions OF billions of stars".
