Key events are the most important things that happen in a story. For instance, they are things that help lead the story to the plot.
A sequence of main events are the different happenings in the book that happen in order.
An example that I have done with my students is to set out 10 different main events that took place, mix them all up, and then have my students order them from what happened first, next, next, ...etc....last.
Putting the main events (big details of the story, chapter, etc..) in sequence will allow your students to determine time, plot, setting, characters, etc...
this might be what you r talking about. Exposition(kinda like an intro), Rising Action, Conflict, Falling action (Rising action, conflict and Falling action can be repeated), Rising action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution
It is called the Plot, because the plot explains the arrangemennt of the events in the story.

Arrangement meeting
The sequential pattern of events in a story refers to the arrangement of events in a chronological order from the beginning to the end. This pattern helps to establish the plot, develop characters, and create a sense of progression and resolution. It usually includes elements like exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

Plot is "the arrangement of the incidents (events, scenes)," according to Aristotle. You figure out what you want to have happen in your story, and put them in the order that you think will be most effective.
This is known as the plot of the narrative. It involves the sequence of events that unfold in a story, leading to a climax and resolution. A well-crafted plot keeps the reader engaged and invested in the storyline.

History is ment to be an objective narrative description of past events, while a story will be a subjective narrative description of either real past events or imaginary people and events.
