The legal symobol used for plaintiff is the greek symbol for Pi (π). Likewise, the symbol used to represent defendant is the symbol for Delta (Δ).
Client and Plaintiff may be interchangeable. I worked as a Legal Assistant and we used the Pi sign (π) for plaintiff and the triangle (∆) for defendants.
Often the symbol Δ is used (delta), while others choose to use D.
Be careful using a capital 'D', as it will interfere with accepted shorthand notation for other legal sources.
