Was Jesus the first person to be crucified on his cross?

Two thieves called Gestas and Dismas were also that day crucified with nails to their crosses. They were fixed to the crosses not only with ropes but also with nails. That was the usual way to execute the death penalty by crucifixion. No exceptions were done with those thieves. And in the same way that Pilate did with Jesus, they suffered previously a cruel flagellation before being carried with their crosses to the Calvary.

How did Saint Dismas die?

Saint DISMAS died crucified in Jerusalem, not for being a christian believer but a malefactor. He shared his punishment with his mate Gestas, also a malefactor, and Jesus Christ. Previous to be crucified he was harshly flagellated. DISMAS was crucified like Jesus. Both feet and hands were fixed in the cross with nails. Once fixed upon the cross, DISMAS was lifted so that the people could enjoy with the sight of his torture. During the hours of crucifixion he repented of his miserable life and asked Jesus to be forgiven of his sins. Jesus promised him the Paradise. After several hours of suffering, two executioners made appearance, bringing with them ladders, spades, ropes, and large iron clubs for the purpose of breaking the legs of the criminals. They took up their iron clubs and broke Dismas' legs, both below the knees. They did the same with Gestas. A few minutes later, DISMAS gave a deep groan, and expired.
