The official logo of USMC is traditionally a red background with a globe, an anchor, sixteen stars and an eagle. These are used on buttons, and on flags, and on other USMC items. This emblem is also used for other branches of the US military, with some small changes to the design.
The coiled rope emblem on the USMC dress cover is known as a "chin strap." It has its origins in the 19th century when Marines would wrap a thin rope around their covers to secure them in windy conditions. Over time, it became a distinctive symbol of the Marine Corps and was adopted as part of the dress uniform.
The United Kingdom hasn't got a national emblem as such. However, the individual countries within the UK do. England has the rose, Scotland has the thistle and Wales has a leek and a daffodil.
The thirteen stars represent the original 13 colonies. The Marine emblem includes the Eagle ( represents our Nation), the Globe (represents our worldwide service), and the anchor (represents Marines close ties with the Navy-the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy).
