You are probably asking about American Eagle silver dollars. These are worth about the spot price of silver. Currently they are worth about $32.
If it has a double eagle on the back around 8 dollars depending on the price per ounce of silver. JFK is on the half dollar, not the dollar. You did look at the back of the coin where the denomination appears, I assume - ?? Kennedy halves dated 1964 are 90% silver and are worth about $6, more or less depending on the spot price of silver. 1965-1969 are 40% silver and are worth $2.50 or so. 1971-present are copper-nickel and are worth only 50 cents.
