It's actually not all that complicated to reduce the incidence of foodborne illness anywhere:
# Obtain food from reliable sources. # Store food properly - keep hot foods hot, cold foods cold and dry foods dry. # When cooking, cook foods to the appropriate temperature. That includes reheating leftovers thoroughly.
# Wash hands before handling food, at any interruption and when changing tasks. # Keep all food contact surfaces clean. It is actually better to allow dishes and utensils to air dry rather than drying with a reusable towel.
# Prevent cross contamination. # Use the food within a reasonable amount of time.
You can avoid food poisoning by practicing food safety. Wash your hands and all cooking surfaces. Do not use the same knife to cut meat and vegetables. Make sure that the counter surface is clean by using a safe disinfectant and soup and water before you put the food on the counter. This will keep down any contaminents that may arise. The best cleaner to use is chlorine bleach. You can use any other type of cleaner that specializes in removing bacteria ftom the counter surface.
Don't let meats, and fruits and vegetables touch each other. bacteria from the meat could grow on the fruit/vegetables. cook meat all the way through. it should reach 165 degrees farenhieght inside before it is thoroughly cooked. wash fruits and vegetables in cool water before serving them, and wash off any unknown stains or bits of stuff.
