There are intake and exhaust "cycles". A 2 stroke goes so much quicker because it it simply intake exhaust, generating power rather fast compared to the 4 cycle engines making power in the cycle half as often. The valving on 4 strokes allows for many things but they are never quite as quick as two stroke engines.
