The TH350 was the standard tranny. I'm not sure if it could even be ordered with a 4 speed and the 403 engine. In 79 every Pontiac equipped T/A was a 4 speed. But I'm not sure if the 4 speed was available with the 403.
If it's a small spark when you are installing the battery cables....and assuming you are connecting them to the correct terminal....it usually means there is something turned on on the car when you are hooking it up. A radio, dome lights, etc. It's harmless. If this isn't the problem, you have a direct short somewhere.....a hot wire grounded out.
the first plug on the drivers side up near the radiator.
Either 185 with the Olds 403 (6.6 litre) or 220 with the Pontiac 400 (T/A 6.6)
from factory they offered a Pontiac 400 w/ 4-speed or the Olds 403. 301 was also available.
