Speed is the rate at which something moves, and can be calculated by the equation: speed = distance / time. Speed does not have a direction associated with it. So if you are in a car and travel 60 miles in 2 hours, your average speed would be 30 miles per hour.

Velocity is very similar to speed, but it does have a direction associated with it. That is the only difference.
