A common mistake is to believe that the German "Autobahn" has no speed limits but that's not true.

The limits range from 100 km/h to 140 km/h

There are a lot of motorways where you have no speed limit which is indicated by not having any speed limit signs.

Speed limits on roads:
  • 70 mph on motorways
  • 70 mph on dual carriageways
  • 60 mph on single carriageways
  • 30 mph in built-up areas (street-lit carriageways)

------------------------

Local traffic authorities can also impose (lower) speed limits. Consequently, on some roads and in some areas there are speed limits of

  • 50 mph or 40 mph. These might be set for non-built-up areas, or in built-up areas where it is safe and appropriate to drive at this speed
  • 20 mph in urban areas where a faster speed could be a danger, e.g. near schools

------------------------

The speeds shown above are the maximum speeds for cars and motorcycles. Restrictions may apply to other vehicles.

For example, powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters MUST NOT travel faster than 4 mph on pavements or in pedestrian areas.

Its definitly less than 80mph as the government might change it and make the speed go up, to 80 so it has to be less.
