The start menu button is almost like a home button.you can drag your favorite programs right on that menu and you can access that program faster by clicking on it. You can drag alot of programs on that menu and you can also delete programs to add new ones......i dont know if this is what your talking about but i hope it helped.

Log off will already be on your start menu, on windows 7 there will be a button that says shutdown, next to the button will be an arrow, from there you can select the option to logoff.

You might be referring to the RUN function/button on the Windows based OS start menu. In modern versions of windows you might have to go into the settings for the start menu to make it show up.

The Mac has no Start button. The functions provided by a Start button can be replicated by using the Dock, Recent Items from the Apple menu (top left corner) and/or the Finder.
