The way a plane would fly, given the the earth is a globe, the halfway point would actually be in Quebec, Canada. It does not look like that on a map, because maps are flat. If you look at it on a globe you will see how it actually is. Flights from Ireland to the USA normally go over Canada. If the world was flat, looking on a map the halfway point would be over the Atlantic Ocean, so no US State would be at the halfway point.
