Whale hunting, also known as whaling, has been around for centuries. Most countries have outlawed whaling due to depleting populations, however Japan continues to hunt whales. Greenpeace International is one of the larger organizations in the world that actively tries to prevent whale hunting around the world.
The largest whale weighed around 200 tons. It measured to be around 98ft. This species is the blue whale.

Absolutely not. No new information can be gained from the "scientific research" conducted, and as a foodstuff it can easily be replaced by a multitude of different sources. It also damages the already-low populations of whale species around the world, so whaling is quite the opposite of necessary.

It is illegal and criminally punishable to whale almost anywhere in the world. There are a few exceptions, like the waters around Japan, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland.
no whale sharks do not bite.they may seem big and scary but people from all around the world swim with whale sharks.
Adult Male Sperm Whales can be as long as 20 meters. The average size is around 17 meters and they weigh 40 tonnes or more. Adult Female Sperm whales are on an average 11 meters long and weigh around 14 tonnes. They are one of the largest Whale species in the world.
Their population is around 20,000. Most likely it would be a bit less than that.
