Nicholas Flamel was also a real alchemist who was connected to the stone - although he did not live to be over 600 years old.
In the US, the book and movie were re-titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as the US publisher did not think that American would know the word "Philosopher" and felt that "Sorcerer" sounded more exciting. J.K. Rowling has said she would have fought this change had she been in a better position at the time.

∙ 8y agoHarry Potter attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The school was in a castle simply referred to as Hogwarts.
When muggles came close to the castle, they saw a ruined building with signs telling them it was dangerous. The school is located somewhere in Scotland, the exact location being unknown to make it harder to find.
