Tacoma narrow bridge.
A parabolic (catenary) arch is the strongest because it most closely mimics the natural thrust line.
well, for my opinion, i think a suspension bridge why: because for of all the cables support the roadway and the two towers looking things at the bottom also supports while for the truss bridge it is only trusses. and if you building a bridge then it depends on what and how you use to build it. good luck!
To hold the arch in place
The longest span an arch bridge can go is relevent to the radius of the arch.
Arch bridges are in the shape of an upside down "U" with mainly steel beans, while supension bridges have one or two Major verticle beams with strong wire connecting to the bridge.
axial thrust acting on the arch causes rib shortening. the arch becomes deeper and hence reduces the horizontal thrust...
The arch is the strongest structure. The reason the others are sometimes used is the span is so long the arch isn't practicle.
an arch bridge
Tacoma narrow bridge.
in a structure like a building an arch is the strongest in a simple geometric structure a sphere would be the strongest because there is not week point such as a corner
triangles are the second strongest shape next to the arch
cable
It is all about the arch. Throughout the history of building people figured out that an arch is the strongest form of support for a doorway or tunnel. The reason is that any weight on the arch is all directed to the middle so that the entire arch is helping to support the weight. If you have a straight line roof, weight at the center is supported only at the area that is in contact with the weight.

The arch was invented by the Etruscans. The arch then was the only known way of building a roofed structure without using beams. The arch is also capable to support heavy loads and made it easier to build large buildings and bridges. The arch is not needed much nowadays because there are other techniques to sustain heavy weights, such as the suspension bridge and the use of steel frameworks and reinforced concrete for buildings.
Countries do not have arch-nemeses like comic book characters do. Israel's strongest opponent among the Arab States is likely Saudi Arabia, but the most historically violent towards Israel used to be Syria and is now Lebanon.
There are three different configurations of arches including the fixed arch, the two-hinged arch, and the three-hinged arch. These configurations determine how stable the arch will be. Types of arches include the triangular arch, semi-circular arch, segmental arch, rampart round arch, lancet arch, equilateral pointed arch, and jack arch. Additional types of arches include the trefoil arch, horseshoe arch, three-centered arch, elliptical arch, inflexed arch, ogee arch, reverse ogee arch, Tudor arch, and parabolic arch.
The arch is one of the strongest forms in architecture. The shell is in a design that maximizes strength while minimizing material, a good idea when it requires something sit on it to hatch it out!
