Best Answer

Every cell membrane consists of phospholipid bi layer, specialized proteins, cholesterol and glycolipids.
Every plasma membrane maintains a membrane resting potential across its surface. Sometimes clusters of cholesterol called lipid rafts are also found.

An animal cell membrane is made up of something called a phospholipid bilayer. Along with that, there are proteins that sit on the membrane called membrane proteins. Membrane proteins can either be receptor proteins, which receive signals coming to the cell, channel proteins, which allow large molecules such as lipids (fats) and proteins to come through, or lastly, marker proteins, which identify the type of cell it is.

Biological membranes are made up of phospholipid bilayers. They have 2 layers of phosphate "heads" with fatty acid "tails". The tails point in toward each other and the heads point away from each other. This has to do with polarity.

Can you clearly see the membrane as a structure?

Yes, the cell membrane can be seen clearly as a structure. The cell membrane is called the plasma membrane and is a barrier between the cell and its environment.

What is the structure that surrounds a cell and controls what enters and leaves the cell?

The structure that controls traffic to and from the cell is the plasma membrane. It is not to be confused with the cell wall, which serves more to give structure to the cell.
