Ethology is the biological discipline that studies animal behaviour. Nowadays many scientists prefer the term 'behavioral biology' instead of ethology, because the study of behaviour also includes new research disciplines such as neurobiology and cognitive psychology, and because the cross links with e.g. psychology en physiology. The societal relevance of behavioral biology appears from its contribution to animal welfare, the conservation of species and the understanding of human nature.
