Maia decides to leve the amazon river for ever, because she can't stand beatrice and gwendolyn, or her adopted family ( the carters ). she is about to leave when she she hears soji behind her, the boy from her dance class that she has a crush on. he says: maia, dont go! i need you! i love you! but maia refused to stay with him so he goes with her back to england. they stow away in a picknick hamper and go to england, where they face the long trek back to maias school, whe bloomsbury school for girls. the chapter finishes with them standing all cold and wet outside the school.
