Jesus, being invited at a wedding with His mother Mary, changed water into wine. The servants were told to do whatever Jesus said, and He told them to put water in the wineskin Jesus then changed the water into wine for the wedding guests. This miracle is one of the decades of the Luminous Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

In Christianity, the transformation of water into wine at the Marriage at Cana or Wedding at Cana is the first miracle of Jesus in the Gospel of John.

In the biblical account, Jesus and his disciples are invited to a wedding and when the wine runs out Jesus turns water into wine.

In John 2:3-9, Jesus had not yet performed a miracle, yet his mother somehow knew he could turn water into wine and insisted he do so, ignoring his objections. Elsewhere, Jesus seems to demonstrate that he was not a devoted son who would do anything his mother asked. If this was indeed a miracle, it was a possibly unworthy miracle and did not contribute to any of the objectives that Jesus may have had on earth.

The Greek god, Dionysus was well known for being able to turn water into wine, so a possible non-miraculous alternative is that this provided a motive for the author of John to create this story. Around the beginning of the second century, pagans were beginning to defend their beliefs against Christianity, pointing out that Jesus had not performed many of the miracles performed by the pagan gods.
