Australia is a vast country. Summer daytime temperatures can range from just 17 degrees Celsius in Tasmania one day to 30 degrees the next. Victorian temperatures can be similarly low one day, yet they can just as easily experience weeks of a heatwave, in which daytime temperatures exceed 44 degrees.

The deserts can be much hotter, of course, whilst in the far north, temperatures are not so much hot (34 degrees or so) as they are humid, making outside conditions very sticky and uncomfortable.

Probably one of the more temperate regions would be southeast Queensland, where temperatures are a little more consistent, averaging 28 to 33 degrees.

=== === === === If by record maximum and minimum, the official figures are:

Maximum 50.7 degrees C 3rd January 1960 at Oodnadatta, SA

Minimum -23.0 degrees C 29th June 1994 at Charlotte Pass, NSW

This gives a range of 73.7 degrees, but of course at different times of the year, and widely separated in time and space. Oodnadatta is in Central Australia, at low altitude, Charlotte Pass is in the NSW high country near Victorian border.

An earlier maximum of around 54 degrees from Queensland been discounted due to the site exposure and measuring equipment used.

The temperature in Australia during Spring varies, as Australia is a huge country and continent.

Spring daytime temperatures can range from a maximum of just 7 degrees Celsius in the high country of Tasmania one day to over 20 degrees the next. Through New South Wales, temperatures can be similarly range from a maximum of around 12 degrees Celsius in the Snowy Mountains in November to 30 degrees Celsius in the far northwest of the state.

Queensland also experiences a hug variation, from 21 degrees Celsius in the southern Granite Belt to 36 degrees in the Gulf country.
