water deposits
"Scale" is a term used for calcium deposits. In areas where the water is high in calcium the calcium will often come out of solution where the water pressure falls to zero. That means white hard deposits of scale will accumulate on faucets. The accumulation grows over time until it is removed usually manually. The short term for this accumulation is "scale build up."
Atherosclerosis is the medical term for a disease that hardens the arteries - the blood vessels. It develops from the build up of plaque and fat deposits and clogs the arteries causing a block. This is extremely dangerous, as blood cannot flow freely to the heart like it should. This condition is one of the reasons for strokes, vascular problems and heart diseases.
Another medical term for calcium deposit is calcification. This occurs when calcium salts build up in body tissues, causing hardening or abnormal deposits.
