Not sure there is one name for this, for this describes a core foundational element of most psychopathologies. At the end of the day most of our overt psychological symptoms we show in life is about, on some level, the dissociation between our conscious and unconscious selves. The unconscious keeps conflict at bay for otherwise we would be flooded and likely shut down. Has some evolutionary value for sure, but like all good things it has another side to its coin. Repression or unawareness, usually there because of hidden conflicts, is a double edge sword. Depends on what level of analysis you use to slice it up.
