The ten heads of Ravana symbolize the freedom we get by crossing our negative attitude. The super powers that Ravana gets from Brahma symbolize the fact that the bad parallel life we create is indistructible.The killing of Ravana by Rama is symbolic of destruction of our bad parallel life that our greed creates.
Thus, the theme of Ramayana is that we must be satisfied with what we have.
