There is no theme, really. Basically, it is about Greg Heffley, a wimpy kid. The book is about his life. It tells you what he does, what problems he faces, and what he does about them. It may not sound interesting, but it is a great book. The "Rodrick Rules" part is written probably because it focuses a bit more on Rodrick's effect on Greg's life.
