Walt Whitman's 1855 book of poetry Leaves of Grass is arguably his most famous work. After its initial publication, Whitman contintued to revise it and add new works to it, including his elegy for the late President Abraham Lincoln, When Lilacs last in the Dooryard Bloom'd, written shortly after Lincoln's assasination in 1865.
