A cello can be any color. Most cellos are wooden, and as such can be finished to display any color, from black to white and everything in between. Electric cellos have even more potential for vibrant colors as the body of them does not do anything other than keep the strings in place. But some of the more beautiful cellos you could find are a natural wood color with a very prevalent grain.

A piano is considered a monotimbral instrument. Meaning that there is no variance in the tone color across the instrument, on a note-by-note basis. As a whole, certain effects can be obtained through use of the pedals, but a piano will still sound in a unified way.

The tone colour of a violin is bright, penetrating and brilliant when playing the high notes it is famous for; but when playing notes from the bottom of its range, the notes become dark and brooding.

Because most traditional violins are made of wood, they can technically be any color a wood and varnish combination can be. Golds, reds, yellows, and browns are the most traditional colors. However, because a thin coat of paint does not often effect the sound quality of the instrument, a violin can be any shade of paint. Violins, especially electric violins can be made out of plastic or even metal, so likewise, these nontraditional instruments can be any shade of color imaginable or have any pattern or picture on them.

When musicians make violins, they use different types of wood to make them. Different woods, when hollowed out, change weight and even sound of a violin.
