Brazil occupies about 75% of the Platform - South American representing the oldest part of the continent - South America. Consequently, and unlike the young mountains of the Andes, the relief of Brazil, in general, is very modest since only 0.5% of the territory is above altitudes of 1,000 meters (see map).

The uplands of the shells - Cambrian old (eg Atlantic Shield) 60% of the territory and the sedimentary plains jovenes most of Phanerozoic age (eg Paraná Basin) approximately 40%.

Outside a small part on the border with Venezuela, the highest elevations (up to 2800 m) are in the Southeast, in the call Mantiqueira Province.

Geomorphological Serra do Mar / Continental Rift Mantiqueira connected by the Southeast with its magnificent cliffs, lower coastal mountains, hills and hillock, plateaus, plains, islands and islets is now one of natural sceneries and the most spectacular in South America and a privileged place for any activity in ecotourism and adventure tourism.
