What is the difference between a food web a food chain and a biomass?

the difference between the food chain and the food web is the food chain is the linear transfer of energy from one organism to the next. And the food web is the complex interconnecting food chains in a community.

What is a pyramid of mass?

a pyramid of mass is the amount of matters with in a substance and it contain about two of the previous level of a foodchain.A pyramid of mass represents the weight of food that is living in each level of a food chain

What is the total dry weight of organisms in each level of a food chain or biomass pyramid?

Say, for example, you have a basic food pyramid consisting of two levels. A tree and caterpillars. The dry mass of the caterpillars mentioned on the level, which could be any amount of caterpillars, is the weight of the caterpillars minus any water. It's the same for all of the levels, but the number tends to be greater on the lower levels. The only two ways to work this out is to "Dry out" the organisms, which would kill them, or by estimating it using an average dry mass for the organism mentioned.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of food chains and food webs?

The main advantage of the food chain is that it is simple and easy to understand what organisms eat and ho the energy flows between them. It's very simple and usually only 3-4 chians long inrespect to a food web which shows a collection of the food chains linked together thus gives a broader and a fuller picture of the feeding relationships between organisms. The main limitation of a food chain compared to a foodweb is that the food chain only shows that a consumer only feeds on one type of prey but in the food web the consumer could on more than one prey. The main disadvantages of both the food chains and the food web is that the they both only possess qualitative information and dont show any quantitaive information thus you cannot know the number or the amount of mass or the energy stored within each trophic level.

What does the term biomass refers to the?

The term biomass refers to the total mass of organisms in a given area or volume.

What would happen in an ecosystem with no omnivores?

Basically then there wouldn't be enough food for the carnivores. so the food chain would become messed up and there would be mass extinction of carnivores

In a food chain how does matter differ from energy?

Matter is anything that has a mass such as a cell or structure. Energy is derived from matter through catabolic pathways.

What is upward force acting on a chain consisting of five links each with weight 100g and the chain is moving with an upward acceleration of 3m'ss?

Mt*g + Mt*a = Ft Mass total * Graviational field strength + Mass total * acceleration = Force Total or F (N) = .5 (kg) * 9.8 (m/s^2) + .5 (kg) * 3.0 (m/s^2) Now solve for force yourself.
