Owing to additions in the number of IIT institutes, there are more seats available for the applicants.

An estimates currently pegs the number around 2200 for the 2 year programes which take admission on the basis of the performance in the CAT exam. The institutions in consideration are as follows:

IIM Ahmedabad (Big Guns Land Here)

IIM Kolkata (Toughest, believe me or not)

IIM Bangalore (Best Designed, but you need to buy a cycle here)

IIM Lucknow (More activites, one of the best placement cell)

IIM Kozhikode (Backwaters anyone!?)

IIM Shillong (most scenic and picturesque)

IIM Indore (A serious option for the foodies)

IIM Raipur

IIM Panchi

IIM Rohtak

Since the tests have gone online, here's a link where you can check out more details: http://www(dot)prometric.com/IIM-CAT/default.htm

Btw, since the CAT results were out on Jan 12, 2011, in case you are wondering about options beyond the CAT exam (got though CAT but not into IIM types), here are a few options you should look at.

Option 1: CRISIL's CCAP - They pay you while on course and offer job after completion. Accepts CAT Scores. http://crisil(dot)com/ccap/edm-ccap/

Option 2: GMAT/GATE - Better exposure and pay. http://www(dot)iitk.ac.in/gate/gate2011/

Option 3: Apply for institutes which accept CAT Scores like MDI Gurgaon, SP Jain Mumbai, NITIE Mumbai, IMT Gaziabad among to name a few.
