Addison's disease is caused by autoimmune damage to the adrenals or damage to the pituitary. In either case, the adrenal glands, will be unable to produce cortisol, aldosterone, testosterone (the main production site of testosterone for women are the adrenal glands), DHEA and about 40 other hormones.

The treatment for Addison's Disease is called glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid replacement.

There are two tests to determine if one has Addison's Disease, the ACTH stimulation test and Insulin Tolerance Test.
