It is only treated symptomatically - so reduce the body's pain response with an age appropriate and dose recommended pain relieving agent.
Offer cooling, soft foods if the throat is painful, which it can be.
Preventing the spread of it is best done prior to the disease showing up, so all you can do once it has manifested is to reduce the chance of other people getting infected by maintaining copious hand washing techniques and avoiding contact with others. Avoid sharing drinks and educate the person that this is a temporary condition and that it will likely not return.
