This is called an insertion mutation.

Some repeats, such as the repeats in the Huntington's gene, can be repeated too many times and then you have the deleterious mutation in this gene.

What is a mutation in a gene?

A permanent change in the gene's DNA sequence. Gene mutations involving one or a few nuckeotides is called point mutation. If a nucleotide is added or deleted, the bases are still read in groups of three, but now those groupings are shifted for every codon that follows. This is called frameshift mutation. Your welcome. (:

A frame shift mutation occurs any time a gene mutation results in the insertion or deletion of a number of nucleotides that is not a multiple of three?

false

Does a mutation in a gene affect the order of DNA bases?

A mutation in a gene can happen by addition, deletion or substitution of base pairs. This means that the order of the bases will change- a new base may be added, a base may be lost, or one base may be substituted for another. The result of these mutations is that it causes the DNA to code for a different protein. If a mutation occurs in a sex cell, the mutation can be passed on to an offspring and affect the offspring's phenotype.

How can new mutations be added to a gene pool?

Mutations are added to a gene pool when a mutation (completely random) occurs in a person. They will pass this gene on to their offspring (and so on, and so forth).

What is a change in the sequence of bases in DNA molecules called?

The change in the order of the bases in a DNA molecule is called a mutation. Such changes may happen because of damage to genomes, replication errors, or insertion or deletion of nucleotide bases.

A mutation in what results in lactose tolerance?

A mutation in the LCT gene, which is responsible for producing the lactase enzyme, results in lactose tolerance. This mutation allows individuals to continue producing lactase into adulthood, enabling them to digest lactose, the sugar found in dairy products.
