<P>Square meter. Actually there is no unit for area, only one for length...the meter. Area and volume (and a host of others) are derivative units of measure. The primary units are "MKS" meter-kilogram-seconds.</P>

Square metres (m2), or, for large areas, hectares (ha). 1 ha = 10 000 m2. As well as square metres, you can also use, for example, square centimetres, square kilometres, etc.

Area is measured in square metres. Before the revision of 1960 area was measured in ares, but these are not in general use today.
