your shotgun was the first J C Higgins model offered in 1946 It was manufactured by Harrington & Richardson based on their Pre war model 120 bolt action repeating shotgun . The 583 1wasmade in Nov 1945 For Sears /High Standard. The early Pre model 10 JC Higgins are scarce in good and shootable condition. However the bolt action shotgun is an old fashion thing and there is very limited collector intrest in old Sears Guns but they are out there. I am one of the very few. and these really are real Sears guns as you will not find these guns with any other name on it It was Sears only product Sears actually owned the design . I have paid 150.00dollars for one in near new cond. These are intresting and unique guns and very good and effective shotguns. great guns from your Grandfathers day
