The mintmark can be found on the reverse [tails] side of the coin under the eagle. The letter "O" indicates the coin was minted in New Orleans. The letter "S" indicates the coin was minted in San Francisco and if there is no letter that indicates the coin was minted at Philadelphia which is shown in this listing as 1856-P.
