I have two listings for Mercury, both are now out of business. One imported shotguns manufactured in Spain. The other was a Belgian firm whose shotguns were imported by Tradewinds, Inc. of Tacoma, WA in the mid 1960s.

This name was put on shotguns by Crescent Fire Arms Co, Davis-Warner Arms Corp., and also by at least one unidentified Belgian maker for Spear and Company.
J Janssen was one of the partners of Simonis, Janssen and Dumoulin which was a Belgian gunmaking firm that produced shotguns for the American hardware store trade from the late 1880's through about 1910. Value is for decoration, and rarely exceeds $250.
Impossible to value with just a serial number.

By and large, the Belgian shotguns are lumped together under the term JABC (Just Another Belgian Clunker). They were imported and sold through hardware catalogs. There ARE some examples of fine Belgian gunmakers. You might take your gun into a gunsmith for evaluation, but dont get your hopes up.
No, the value of American made Browning Auto-5's, are less than the Belgian models based on like condition. The American made models were made using Remington model 11 machinery. While tens of thousand American models were made during the war, few Belgian models were made and/or assembled during that time. There are very few collectors that are interested in American made Brownings versus the Belgian Browning Collectors.
Perdy - never heard of that maker Purdy - you need the services of a professional appraiser who knows shotguns.
